Works Dedicated to 44 Castles of Liberated Territories Shown
1 / 8

At the opened exhibition on February 3 in the foyer of the Session Hall of the National Assembly the reproductions of 44 castles discovered in Karvachar Region by Bakur Karapetyan and the RA National Academy of Sciences were presented.

The exhibition, entitled The Newly Found Castles of the Liberated Territories of Artsakh , aims to present to parliamentarians more in detail the discovered monuments, as well as to receive some support for their studies and preservation.

Speaking about the exhibition, the Member of the RA NA My Step Faction Artur Manukyan highlighted not only the liberation of the Artsakh territories, but also giving them a new breath and content, which, according to him, may liberate the history as well. The MP thanked the persons for carrying out important work.

The exhibition co-author, prose-writer and publicist Bakur Karapetyan said that the studies of the newly discovered monuments of liberated territories began three years ago, 30 out of the 44 castles of Karvachar and Kashatagh regions had already been explored. The Archaeologist-Ethnographer Gagik Sargsyan had a significant part in those works. According to Bakur Karapetyan, the research works continue, but there is a need for various types of support, particularly investments, which may promote the full appropriation and settlement of the territories.

“There is a problem: the area liberated by blood is not fully appropriated, not fully populated. In Kashatagh there were 14.000-15.000 people, now it has decreased to 12.000,” Bakur Karapetyan expressed his concern.

He thanked the RA NA Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan and the NA Staff for organizing the exhibition in the Parliament of Armenia. The prose-writer also expressed his gratitude to the organizations and state bodies of Artsakh that had always assisted in the research works.

On behalf of the President of the Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan, the Permanent Representative of the Permanent Representation of Artsakh Republic to the Republic of Armenia Karlen Avetisyan welcomed the event and handed Bakur Karapetyan Vachagan Barepasht (the Pious) Medal for his services to the Artsakh Republic.

At the end of the event the short film The Cry of the Broken Church was shown.
